Red, purple, orange and yellow. That reminds me…of chiropractic.

Fall is in the air! Soak in the beauty of the crisp, fresh air, and the magnificent colors!
A professor of mine in chiropractic school, Dr. Decken, would always ask us, “How does that remind you of chiropractic?” So to apply this question to my appreciation of fall… Fall reminds me of chiropractic because…
Let’s brush up on a little 4th grade science…
Leaves change color in the fall as they receive less sunlight and heat, and the energy giant known as chlorophyll begins to break down. The green chlorophyll subsides and the gorgeous yellow and orange shades we love reveal themselves. Other chemical processes occur and anthocyanins in the leaves add red and purple colors. Pretty neat!
But what I also find fascinating (and here’s the point of my story) is that
the leaves fall off the tree. Yes, the fall off. While temperature, light, and water greatly influence the intensity of the colors of the leaves, the leaves only fall to the ground because a layer of cells develop between the leaf stem and the tree branch. This layer separates the leaf stem at just the right time, and the leaf then falls with its weight in the wind. Neat again!
In chiropractic, we address this inner wisdom, or innate organization within each of us. As the tree seemingly ‘knows’ when to separate the leaf stem during the fall season, leaving a mark on the branch where it once was, your nervous system seemingly and always ‘knows’ how to heal from the inside out.
Your body instinctively goes through change and growth with the seasons of life to continue the best healing process you need.
My goal as your family chiropractor is to best support your nervous system in this continued growth and the changes in the seasons of your healing process.
Did you ever catch a falling leaf? Go for a walk or a run and catch one! Enjoy your experience of fall, and remember…it does remind you of chiropractic!
